Psychologists say that when meeting people, they first of all pay attention to the condition of their shoes and hairstyle: it is these two criteria that we subconsciously follow when assessing someone’s appearance. Hairdressing is a seemingly simple profession. But is it really that simple?

There is a certain specialization in the hairdressing profession: some hairdressers deal only with men's hairstyles, while others, on the contrary, only do women's hairstyles. There is another category of specialists who work only with children - they are called children's hairdressers. Of course, there are also universal hairdressers who are ready to cut anyone’s hair, but lately this has been quite rare. A good hairdresser is always a sought-after specialist, and you can only get an appointment by appointment.

HISTORY OF THE PROFESSION HAIRDRESSER.

The word "hairdresser" is of French origin (
"perruque"
) - a hairpiece, and in the theater - one of the expressive means of makeup. Our ancient ancestors knew about the profession of a hairdresser. At different times and in different countries it was called differently: hairdressing specialists were called barbers, barbers, hairdressers. In addition to cutting and styling hair, hairdressers did shaving, manicures, and often served as doctors, subjecting their clients to simple medical procedures. In Russia, hairdressers were called barbers. A large number of people came to the barber to shave, get their hair cut or have their hair done. And only in our time the specialization of hairdressers has narrowed - now they only deal with hairstyles. The profession of a hairdresser has always been and will be vital, since a person has an inherent desire for beauty and self-care.

The profession of a hairdresser has been known since ancient times, so we are unlikely to be able to name the first representative of this profession. But at least it is known for sure that these were male and female slaves who lived in ancient Egypt. Because it was in Ancient Egypt that the first hairdressers appeared.

The word hairdresser translated means “wig maker.” In the ancient world, great importance was attached to the beauty of hairstyles, because it was believed that people transformed their appearance with them. Since ancient times, hair of a certain length and styled in a special way was a certain sign that distinguished one class from another.

So, for example, military people, people working on the land, slaves and free citizens had completely different hairstyles, which clearly made it clear to others which group of the population this or that person belonged to.

Later in ancient Greece and ancient Rome, hairdressers were favorite places to meet and have interesting conversations! Yes, yes, it was in hairdressing salons that all the most exciting events were discussed and various impressions were shared. Not without reason, at that time it was believed that a hairdresser not only decorates a person and makes him more beautiful, but is also a healer of souls.

The man spent a long time in hairdressing salons, which gave him the opportunity to entertain himself with long conversations and conversations. And it was the hairdresser who was the most gracious listener and kept the conversation going. By the way, even now, having fallen into the hands of a hairdresser, we often discuss with him not only the hairstyle, but also much more!

But in ancient times, hairdressers performed work that was not entirely usual for modern professionals in this field. Hairdressers at that time provided not only services such as cutting, shaving, styling, curling and dyeing hair, but also engaged in surgical healing. Hairdressers could perform “bleeding,” which involved cutting the skin on the skin so that, as they said at the time, “bad blood” would leave the body. In addition, hairdressers treated wounds, and sometimes even pulled out bad teeth for their clients!

In 1462, a community of hairdressers was first created in England. And already in 1540, the above community united barbers and surgeons, but the English king Henry VIII made a division in these two professions: barbers were engaged only in cutting hair and shaving beards and no longer had the right to perform surgical procedures.

Gradually, the profession of a hairdresser had less and less contact with the profession of a surgeon and developed as a separate industry, paying more and more attention to haircuts, hairstyles, and shaving.
