DIY paper boat: step-by-step instructions
Knowing how to make a classic boat and sailboat, you can try to make a double boat or catamaran. In order to make a catamaran, we need a sheet of paper and scissors.
We need to make a square sheet from A4 sheet. Fold it in half, and then fold each half in half again towards the center.
Rotate the rectangle 90 degrees and repeat the folding procedure.
Let's turn the workpiece and see that it is divided into squares. Fold the opposite sides of the square towards the center.
We take the lower corners of the sheet and move them apart. Fold the 2 inner squares diagonally.
Turn the workpiece and repeat the procedure on the other side.
Fold the layout in half and open it, creating volume.
How to assemble a paper boat: diagrams
Add to your collection a few more options for paper boats that are suitable for beginners and experienced shipbuilders. Unusual DIY ship crafts can decorate any children's room.
Tip: to prevent a paper boat from becoming limp in water for a long time, dip it in melted paraffin and dry it. This way it will be able to repel water and will last longer.
How to make a warship out of paper
Ask any boy what his favorite game is and he will name war games. They can be on the ground with an army of soldiers, or using planes or ships.
You can easily make a warship out of paper. It is enough to choose any version of a paper ship, simply paint it with the appropriate colors, and add military attributes.
Such a ship can be made from green paper, or you can pre-paint a white sheet with camouflage.
Let's draw two lines on a piece of paper - horizontally and vertically.
Bend the bottom part of the leaf in half and turn the product over.
We fold the two edges of the figure inward towards the vertical line; they will play the role of the side of the ship.
Let's open the corners at the bottom of the workpiece, which will be the side of the ship.
Carefully fold the top part and bend it upward immediately.
We bend the corners on the sides.
We open the product along the marked lines, and fold the edges of the top closer to the center.
We turn the workpiece.

A boat with a paper sail: step-by-step description with diagram
A paper boat with a sail looks much more attractive and more similar to the original. Making a boat with a sail is quite easy.
The simplest option is to make a classic boat and attach a mast with sails to it.
You can immediately make a sailboat out of paper. To do this you will need a sheet of paper of any color.
We make a square from a sheet of A4 paper. Fold it in half diagonally to create a triangle.
Unfold the sheet back and fold it in half in the usual way.
Unfold the sheet and fold it in half again on the other side.
Straighten the sheet and bend the corners of the squares drawn with lines towards the center. Fold the craft in half and unfold.
Fold the free left corner towards the center and you will get an open envelope. Bend this edge to the side. We bend this corner into the ship.
We will get something like a diamond.
Bend the right corner up - we get two sails in the end.
Bend the bottom corner back towards the center and turn the product onto your face.
Such a boat can be decorated or some details can be drawn to complete the picture.
Instructions on how to make an origami sailboat
Since the first two schemes were training, the next model will not be difficult for you to put together. Here it is recommended to take colored paper with one side white.
First, the sheet is placed face down on the surface. Having placed the sheet in a vertical position, it is necessary to connect its left side with the edge of the upper corner. Since the pattern uses a square, the excess part, that is, the triangle, should be cut off.
Now you need to fold the workpiece three times: first vertically, then horizontally and then diagonally
Next, the two sides are bent towards the middle, and the boat itself is unbent, but it is important to hold the center of the shape with your finger.
Next, you need to turn the product over again with the colorful side down and bend the workpiece diagonally. Almost the last step is to deploy all the components. All folds that are present on the craft are carefully ironed and the vessel is opened. At this point the sailing ship will be ready.
Origami constructor made of cardboard
This method is suitable for those who are just developing hand motor skills. The constructor is created on the basis of a diagram that you can come up with yourself and draw in paint or on paper. How to collect:
- There are several types that use glue and special compartments to accommodate “fasteners”.
- In both cases, each piece is cut out with scissors.
There are no rules in this master class; you can give free rein to your imagination. If a child will do the work, you need to ensure comfort and safety (plastic scissors and a ruler are chosen).
Craft in the shape of a boat for February 23
And finally, our selection ends with another master class, in which we, of course, will also make a boat. But not quite ordinary, but made from waste material. Namely, ordinary sponges and napkins will come in handy for cleaning. I wonder what might come of this? Let's see.
List of materials:
Simple pencil;
- Ruler;
- Scissors;
- Cleaning wipes;
- Awl;
- Double-sided red paper;
- Sponges;
- Wooden skewers for shish kebab;
- Toothpicks;
- PVA glue.
Stages:
Using a triangle-shaped template, we make a mark on one end of the sponge and cut it off so that we get the bow of the ship.
Now let's start making sails. To do this, we will need to cut out three rectangles from napkins: 5x7, 4x6 and 3x5 cm.
We will make the mast from a kebab skewer. If you take a sponge measuring 5x8 cm, it is desirable that the length of the stick is at least 15 cm. Place our rectangles on it as shown in the photo.
The next stage is making the flag. Well, where would we be without it?) Cut out a 1.5x5 cm strip from red paper, fold it in half and make a triangular cutout from the free edge.
Glue the flag to the mast. And another one, the same, for the toothpick.
Now we insert them into the hull of our ship.
That's all. The craft is ready. Very simple and cool, don't you agree?
If desired, crafts can be decorated in an unusual way.
Waste material generally provides a lot of opportunities for creativity. For example, ordinary juice boxes are suitable for making ships.
Or even walnut shells.
An excellent option is a foam base.
Here is another variation of our craft.
Very interesting spring boats are made from plastic bottles.
Pirate Sailor for Beginners
Oooh, how kids love these pirate toys. It is better to create such ships from cardboard, because... they turn out to be very massive and are suitable for more than one game. You can store it on a shelf; it would be a shame to put it in water. It's better to play it more than once. Here, of course, you can’t do without glue and scissors. Since we have a theme of pirate ships for beginners, let’s first look at the easier diagrams.
For example, for this look we need a sheet of white paper, and no scissors or glue. But with the created ship, you will have to use your imagination a little, decorating it with pirate things.
And this will help, so as not to think about what to draw on it, you can come up with something very beautiful and unusual of your own.
Now we will move on to more complex schemes for creating ships; here we cannot do without the help of your parents. To make ships like this, we need thick paper or cardboard, and a little imagination.
To create this look using this diagram, you need to print it on A4 format, cut it out and trace it onto cardboard. The next one features higher walls on the deck.
Here you can do without printing, just transfer this picture onto cardboard using a ruler, measuring the dimensions. As shown in the picture above.
What about the design? Of course, this is only your imagination, I will show you several design options to make it easier for you to decide.
As you can see in the picture, the ship is made on thick paper, and later painted. The windows can be cut out leaving small holes, or cut out of colored paper of a different color and glued to the deck. And of course, we don’t forget about our beautiful girls, and we will create a boat design for their dolls.
This work is made of harder cardboard. Such a ship is made more massive in size so that it can accommodate dolls. The sail is made of fabric and attached with a thick thread.
If you have a question about securing the bottom, you can do it like this. Gluing it to paper tape. In my opinion it's a good decision.
If for some reason there was no cardboard or thick paper at home. You can make a similar job from a plastic bottle. I think this can be found in any home.
In the prepared bottle, cut out one of the sides, rectangular in shape. We stuff it with polystyrene foam. We stick skewers into it, having previously put on them sails made from a plastic bag or ordinary colored paper.
In general, there are many different ideas for creation, such pirate ships. The main thing is to get in the right mood and you will get your own original masterpiece. Which will be unlike any other.
DIY foam ship for children
Do not rush to throw away foam plastic after purchasing household appliances, especially if you have children. It can be useful for making a quick boat.
Materials:
- Styrofoam pieces
- Toothpicks
- Knife
- A thread
- Film for decoration
- Colored paper
Using a knife, cut out the shape of a boat - two rectangles of different sizes. A large rectangle needs to have a sharp nose.
Using glue or a toothpick, connect both parts
All that remains is to decorate the boat. In this matter, you can give your child room for creativity.
Cut out flags from paper and glue the flag onto the mast.
You can add a second toothpick to the ship and tie them together with rope or thread. We'll insert another toothpick at the back of the deck. The places where the thread is attached can be lubricated with glue.
The outermost toothpicks need to be shortened.
We will hang small flags folded in half on the thread.
Another option for a ship's mast made of foam.
Let's make a cross from two toothpicks and wrap it with thread. Let's break off the ends.
The sail can be made from a tree leaf or fabric.
More complex foam ship designs will require more time.
Sailboats, boats and steamships
In addition to the classic origami boat, there are many alternative designs. Western designers are in demand for a sailboat, which is used in wedding table decor. Despite its two-dimensionality, the model can stand on its own thanks to the folded lower part. This significantly expands the range of its application. But you can’t send such a sailboat on a voyage.
A two-pipe steamer, on the contrary, floats quite well on the water. And it folds very easily based on the basic “Pancake” shape. This is probably why the steamboat has become a favorite of preschool children and is catching up in popularity with its “classic” brother.
If such a boat is sent sailing, it is only on the table. It will become a decoration for children's parties, acting as a disposable tableware for sweets.
A modified version is a motor boat.
A sailboat based on the basic “Catamaran” shape. It looks a bit like a Chinese junk. Recommended for decorating cards.
Another nice steamer that can be both voluminous and flat. It is better not to put it on the water - it will capsize and quickly sink.
