Slide 9. Cabbage has long been treated with almost religious adoration. The day of the Exaltation holiday was almost universally considered the date of the beginning of the cabbage harvest. It was fermented, salted, and various dishes were prepared from it on this fast day.
Slide 10. Our ancestors have been growing cabbage since the 9th century and were the first to invent a method for fermenting it. Cabbage was fermented with whole heads of cabbage, shredded, and chopped. There were white and gray sauerkraut. The first was prepared from white cabbage according to recipes that have remained virtually unchanged to this day. The second - gray - was obtained from the same raw materials, but a layer of cabbage was sprinkled with rye flour along with salt. In this case, if there was not enough juice under pressure, rye kvass was added to the barrel to improve fermentation. Perhaps this was the oldest, original method that gave cabbage the name “sauerkraut,” i.e. “seasoned with kvass.”
Slide 12. For chopping cabbage, each house had a special trough, which was not used for anything else, and a special knife was called a chop. Other devices were also used - a shredder - a special machine for shredding, i.e. cabbage slices in the form of shavings, and a wooden pestle.
Slide 13. First, the heads of cabbage must be washed and cleaned of damaged and limp leaves. Having cut out the stalk, the heads of cabbage need to be chopped or shredded on a special shredder. Mix the shredded cabbage thoroughly with salt and shredded carrots in a wooden or enamel container.
Slide 14. Place the prepared cabbage in a tub, barrel or glass jar, tamping each new portion with a wooden pestle or other blunt object until abundant juice comes out.
Slide 15. Cabbage was fermented with caraway seeds, celery, dill, and juniper berries. If desired, you could add seasonings, allspice, bay leaves, and cranberries to the cabbage. Together with chopped cabbage, whole white heads of cabbage were fermented, as well as cucumbers of the last harvest and apples.
Slide 16. It’s good to lay green cabbage leaves on top of the cabbage. Cover the cabbage with a white cotton cloth, and place a wooden circle with pressure on it, under a press. For oppression, it is better to choose large round stones, such as are found along the banks of rivers. After some time, under the weight of oppression, the cabbage will settle and become covered with brine. If the brine does not come out, the load should be increased. The fermentation process lasts about a week at a temperature of 18–20°.

Gases produced during fermentation will escape through these punctures. In a couple of days you need to make new punctures. When the cabbage turns white (and this usually happens a week after salting), it should be transferred from a warm room to the cellar, and glass jars to the refrigerator. At this point, the process of preparing cabbage can be considered complete.

Thematic decoration a la “kindergarten” is ideal for birthdays and other celebrations anywhere - at home, outdoors, in a cafe. Compared to other themes, it is easy to fit within a modest budget. And it will take a little time to prepare.
But still, you need to put in a bit of effort - then the guests will definitely believe that childhood is not gone forever. Ask your friends for help; they probably have something suitable for decoration lying around.
Since this is a kindergarten, there should be plenty of decorations. We offer thematic ideas:
- a kindergarten-themed party means a lot of balloons. A variety of shapes and colors, hanging on the ceiling, lying here and there, collected in bouquets, arches and simple figures;
- make huge bright candies from corrugated paper with a surprise inside - real candies, streamers, tinsel. Hang them from the ceiling;
- You can’t do without traditional paper garlands. You can use the simplest colored paper, no frills. Triangles, circles, rings - just like in childhood. For ambiance, add candy wrappers and chewing gum inserts;
- arrange boxes or clear baskets full of toys. Place on the chairs/shelves the heroes of our childhood - Leopold, Gena, the wolf and the hare from “Well, Just Wait,” and characters from other cartoons. If you can’t find such toys, print out the pictures. Bring cars, soldiers, pyramids;
- guests will definitely want to play with a top, a frog with scissors, a rainbow spring, and a racket with a ball on a string. And also rocking horses, soap bubbles, kaleidoscopes, Rubik's cube and much more that will stir up nostalgic memories;
- Collect bright bouquets from colored paper and place them... in children's pots! Too much? Then into the sand buckets, also a fun surprise. It's great if there is a place to organize a miniature sandbox (for example, in a children's inflatable pool);
- hang jumping ropes and elastic bands on the backs of chairs, cabinet handles, etc., place a gymnastics hoop against the wall, place bright balls in a net hanging on the wall. If the kindergarten party is held outdoors, be sure to prepare several water pistols. All this can be useful for competitions and entertainment, and not just as decoration;
- decorate the wall with “children’s” drawings. Or find photos of invited friends dating back to this period for a kindergarten-themed party. It's better to do it in a roundabout way so as not to spoil the surprise. You can hang it randomly on the wall or in a row, like at an exhibition in a group. It will be possible to hold a competition “Guess who it is?”;
- organize a kindergarten living corner. But there is no need to torment real animals with temporary moving and noise. Make paper birds, fish, a hedgehog, a rabbit and a couple of hamsters;
- use positive patterns - polka dots, stripes, checkered patterns. Replace boring textiles, scatter bright pillows. It’s great if you can find several children’s educational rugs – the floor will immediately fit into a single style. And if you also “sprinkle” it with multi-colored confetti!
- It will be fun to put stylized lockers for clothes at the entrance. With bright doors, drawings of flowers and animals so that the “kid” can recognize his “wardrobe”;
